Today is…

June 26th, 2007

My parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. We had dinner last night with both sets of my grandparents and my dad cooked an enormous amount of food. For those of you who have been privileged enough to sample some of my father’s culinary delights, you would be correct in assuming that our dinner was of 5 star caliber. For those of you who have yet to dine at my house, you’ll just have to take my word for it.

My dad’s parents celebrated their 50th last year (if I recall correctly) and my mom’s parents will be celebrating their 50th next year (I believe). So you could safely assume that my family is big on “family”. We have no shortage of it, and hold it high as one of our most valued treasures in this world. The commitment is there and very real. I swear that I have never seen my parents fight…not once in the 22 years that I have known them. They are human, and have had their differences and disagreements over the years (both of them will quickly admit to this); I still haven’t seen them.

How many people do you know who are still married after 25 years. How many people do you know that have been married 25 years and are still in love? How many people do you know that have been married 50 years and are still in love? I’ve known of several examples throughout my years. I hope and pray that I will experience the same kind of love in my lifetime, and I hope that those who might read this will have the same for themselves.

Geoff is leaving for Chicago tomorrow, and will be gone / unable to write until Friday of this week. That’s alright though, because he cranks out words like people in this town have kids.  I could probably not write a damn thing until he gets back, and he’d still finish it for us before he went to bed on Friday night.  I’ll be able to keep us going though; I DID complete NaNoWriMo remember?

SF: 24 – The Day The Words Died

June 24th, 2007

Geoff wrote today, while I chilled out.  I was expecting that our characters had gone back in time, cured cancer, developed another appendage, or overdosed on acid and discovered a hidden portal to heaven under their kitchen sink.  Unfortunately, Geoff’s computer decided to make our travels a little bit more difficult, and somehow lost the 1,500+ words that he had crafted this evening.  You never know what’s going to happen when Geoff takes over :)   It’s all good though, we’ll only be a day behind, and if both of us write at least 667 words tomorrow, no one will know the difference…well, except for Geoff and I, assuming that Geoff doesn’t run out in front of a bus.  I suppose that whoever reads this would know as well…………you can’t prove nothing!

It’s hard to believe that we are approaching our last week. I’m trying to piece together the story for another screenplay or novel, that I will begin shortly after June is over. If anyone would care to join me, the pace I am going to assume is 500 – 1000 words per day.

I skipped yesterday. I decided to play some Geometry Wars after work, then went to bed early (for me at least). Even though we’re close to 75% done, for some reason we’re only at seventy pages; we should be at ninety pages, and I don’t know why this is, but I blame Geoff anyway.

I’m currently reading “On Writing” by Stephen King. I haven’t read much of his work, but this book makes me want to consume them all. As well as write my own.

Time for some more Geometry Wars, then “The Prestige” then maybe something productive, then bed.

This is what happens when you tell Geoff to, “Go wild” because you’re too busy to write this evening.  It’s not a bad thing, in fact, it is the exact opposite.  I just have to do something noteworthy tomorrow :)

Act 2 is the devil, and I’m not sure if Act 3 is going to be all that much better.  By better, I mean easier.

Beethoven, and why I suck

June 19th, 2007

Could someone please explain to me why, on this Tuesday morning at 2:15 AM EST, I have for the first time in my life listened to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony?

For those of you who wish to listen to a very low-quality stream (complete with emphysemic audience members) go here.

I did the bare minimum to reach our word goal.  You all should be so proud.  I’ll write more tomorrow, but movies are calling my name.

SF: 17 – aka, genius cannot be rushed

June 17th, 2007

I didn’t write anything today.  I don’t think Geoff did either.  Which is alright, because we didn’t really have to write anything today.  I did however, get Geoff hooked up with a blog here at ye olde subparcitizens.net.  It’s about time, it’s been kinda lonely out here.  Now it’s time to sit back, relax, have a beer and watch a movie.
