"I want to create something. Something that matters, something that improves the world of the individual using it, viewing it, consuming it or doing otherwise with whatever it is intended to do. I want whatever I create to have a bigger impact than Jackson, MI."

My thoughts exactly. There's such a larger world out there, that most people in Jackson will never know. And I've not nearly seen enough of it. ;) And I'm with you about not caring about making money; Ben, as you know, we both want to create something meaningful, something artistic, that changes lives, like many of the novels and films I've encountered have changed mine, and have spoken to me and told me that I should be involved in making films somehow, someway. Or at least some sort of creative process, you know?

I was thinking about what my stepdad, Phil, a VCL graduate, who didn't attend college, asked me once: "Why do you hate Jackson so much, and why do you want to leave it for good someday?" I responded with "I have no respect for an individual whose first instinct is to quit, give up, roll over and die, or any combination of the three. If Jackson ever "teaches" you anything, it's that moroseness is an admirable trait, and it's not. I will not conform to these characteristics; I will not be a product of fear. That's why Jackson is the way it is. People have become conditioned; they don't know any better. All they know is fear, and that they're afraid of change." I think this sums it up:

"I don't think that I can continue to live in a world that embraces and nurtures apathy as if it was virtue."
